How to use the Wordle solver

1. Green: type each letter you know in its spot.
2. Yellow: under each spot, type the letters that are in the word but were yellow in that spot.
3. Grey: type every letter that is not in the word.
4. The list updates as you type. The first words use the most common letters in each position, which makes them good next guesses.

How the list is ordered

After each clue, the solver counts how often every letter appears in each of the five positions across all the words that still fit. Words made of the most frequent letters in their positions come first, because guessing one of them rules out the most remaining words whichever colours come back. Letters that repeat inside a word count for less, since a repeated letter tells you less.

Tips

• Type a yellow letter under the spot where it was yellow. If it was yellow in two spots, type it under both.
• A letter can be grey and green in the same guess when the word has it only once. Put it in green only; the solver ignores the grey for letters you marked green or yellow.
• If no words are left, check for a letter typed in the wrong row.

Which words are included

The solver searches every five letter word in the ENABLE word list (public domain). That includes rare words the daily puzzle would not use, so if a word looks unusual, try the next one. Sources and licences.
