The highest scoring Scrabble words, length by length

How we scored the words

Each word is scored at face value: the sum of its letter values, with no double or triple squares. We only kept words you can build with a standard English set, which has 100 tiles including 2 blanks, and just one each of J, K, Q, X and Z. That rules out JAZZ and FIZZ unless you use a blank, which scores 0, and PIZZAZZ entirely: it needs four Zs and there are only two blanks.

Highest scoring two and three letter words

Two-letter words matter more than their score suggests: placed alongside another word, the X in XI or AX can count twice. Our list has 96 two-letter words in all; see the full list of 2 letter words.

Highest scoring four and five letter words

QUIZ is the top four-letter word at 22 points using the only Q and the only Z. JAZZ adds up to 29 on paper, but it needs a second Z: with a blank it is worth 19.

Highest scoring seven and eight letter words

Using all seven tiles from your rack adds a 50 point bonus, so MUZJIKS is worth 79 before any premium square. Eight-letter words need one letter that is already on the board.

Words with J, Q, X and Z

Many players know QI and ZA. They are not in the ENABLE list we use, so check the dictionary your game uses before you rely on them.

Q without U

The same words in Words With Friends and Wordfeud

Other games price letters differently, so the best words change. These are the letters whose values differ from Scrabble:

Wordfeud (English tile set) differs from Scrabble on 6 letters: B 4, C 4, G 3, J 10, P 4, U 2. The bingo bonus for using all seven tiles is 50 in Scrabble, 35 in Words With Friends and 40 in Wordfeud. Our Words With Friends and Wordfeud helpers score words with each game's own values.
